As I write this column, I am preparing to play in the World Championships in Katowi, Poland. This year is an “Open” year where there is no qualification or restriction as to whom you team up with, so I am making the most of the opportunity to play against some of the best players in the world!
I’m playing in the Mixed Championships with my regular partner Kelvin Raywood, and we have teamed up with two French pairs. I’m also playing with a new partner Paul Janicki who is on our CBF Board, and we have teamed up with a French pair and a Romanian pair.
I’m sharing this with you especially to encourage others to be brave in entering competitions against those whom you might feel are much better than you. How better to improve your game than to test yourself against the best? Remember, Bridge is a journey…
I am excited about our second annual Celebrity Auction , and I am reaching out to top players worldwide to be a part of this exciting event by volunteering to offer a game or to play in our Celebrity game. Please go to cbf.ca to sign up! We appreciate your support.
We are continuing with our regular and new initiatives, and I would like to acknowledge our hard-working Board for their dedication and commitment to helping to grow this game and in helping to offer wonderful Canadian events to players of all abilities. I’m very happy to welcome Kathy McDonald from Kingston, Ontario to our Board, as a Director at Large: she brings experience as a Club Manager, Tournament Director and Bridge enthusiast!
