Michael (b.1951) started playing duplicate and rubber bridge in Toronto in the late 60’s.
He has multiple wins in Canada’s Open and Senior events scanning 4 decades, the latest in his Hall of Fame inauguration year 2024.
One poignant fact is that he has won the Open 4 different times with 4 different partners.
He also has 2 Senior Championship titles, and has represented Canada in International events many times in both the Open and Senior categories.
Michael has 3 NABC wins – 2 of them with Karen Cumpstone along with Joan Eaton and Nader Hanna, in the Freeman Mixed Teams Board a Match event.
His biggest win however came in 2018 with another HOF member – John Carruthers, when they won the 6 session von Zedtwitz Life Masters Pairs in Atlanta – only the 2nd Canadian pair ever to win this event. The first was the legendary Murray and Kehela.
Michael is now retired from a 40 year career in the Property and Casualty Insurance Industry, and lives in Victoria BC with his wife Barbara Stewart where they are kept busy looking after their master of the household – Ozzie.
