Victor Lamoureux of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, the youth in question, became Canada’s youngest-ever Life Master, during the last tournament day, at 12 years and 20 days old.

The passing of Canadian-born television star Art Linkletter, best known during many of our players’ formative years for the entertaining television program “Kids Say The Darnedest Things” and remarks heard recently during the Jim Thompson Regional tournament reminded me of all-time bridge leading author Alfred Sheinwold’s comment to the effect that his colleagues may never forgive him, but they frequently demonstrated that genius was not required for playing bridge successfully.
Overheard (Oh): “It is bad enough to have to play against that kid, but can you imagine if one were to lose a team match to him, too?” |

During the June 2010 Canadian Team Trials a classic situation arose where the opening leader against six spades had an eight card heart suit of AKQJ10954 and a side void, and just about everyone holding those cards in that situation made the opening lead of the heart 4! Results varied somewhat though. |

In 2008 the CBF established a list of potential non-playing captains for our open, women’s and senior teams competing in the various World Championships. The purpose of the NPC list is to assist teams in selecting their NPC in a timely fashion, in order to maximize the team’s preparation time for the championships. The list, which is updated annually, includes CBF members in good standing that have adequate international experience, either a player or a NPC, who have expressed interest in performing the NPC role, and have been approved by the CBF Board of Directors.
