News & Updates

New Championship Events at the World Bridge Games

New teams and pairs championships have been added to the schedule of the 2016 World Bridge Games which are to be held in Wroclaw, Poland, September 3-17, 2016. The new events offer Canadian CBF members the opportunity to compete in a world championship event.

CBC Changes

In response to feedback from our members, the CBF Board of Directors voted to introduce several changes to the Canadian Bridge Championships (CBC), starting with the 2016 CBC in Toronto. As a result of some of the changes, the CBC will now be held over a 9 day period instead of 8 days previously.

The changes aim to make the CBC more appealing to Canadian bridge players of all levels; to reduce the cost of participation in the major team championships; and to enhance the format of some of the team championships.

CBF Memorabilia

We have recently added several interesting articles and press clippings (primarily from the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s) to the CBF Memorabilia library in the Members Only Section. These articles mostly highlight the achievements of Canadian greats, such as Eric Murray and Sami Kehela, during that time period.

Bridge Canada Magazine

The October issue of Bridge Canada is now available with 40 pages of articles, quizzes and more! The magazine is available in both English and French and can be accessed by selecting Bridge Canada from the “Members Only Section” menu.

Support Our Kids

Recognizing that the future of our game depends on attracting young players, more and more effort is being spent to introduce bridge at schools. One indication that such efforts are yielding significant results is the annual School Bridge Day held as part of the Toronto Easter Regional. In 2014, the event, the brainchild of Flo Belford, attracted 440 students!
