Canadian to be Inducted into the ACBL Hall of Fame – Peter Nagy

During the Toronto NABC, Peter Nagy will be inducted into the ACBL Hall of Fame.

1942- 2003

In November 1956 Soviet tanks and the army had killed thousands of students and citizens in order to restore Soviet power in Hungary following an unprecedented revolution in the Communist Bloc. This event forced about 200000 people to flee the country of their birth.

John Bowman  1947-2017

It is never easy to say goodbye to a good friend, particularly one you have known for over 50 years. The Ottawa bridge community has been fortunate to produce a number of strong players over the years, and John was one of the greatest. We met in the late 60’s and, in addition to bridge, backgammon and gin kept us up into the wee hours daily. Those were the days when we couldn’t wait for “The Bridge World” to arrive so we could assert our mastery by solving the often-difficult double-dummy problem. No one was better at it than John. John is survived by wife Pam, daughter Erin and grandchildren Heydon and John.
John would have turned 70 on June 24.

2018 CBCs in Montreal

The 2018 Canadian Bridge Championships will be held May 26 – June 3 at McGill University in Montreal. Further details will be provided in the upcoming months.

Canada-Mexico Playoffs

The Canadian Open, Women and Senior teams will be playing against their Mexican counterparts June 10 & 11 in Mexico City . The winner of each of the three 120-board matches earns the right to compete in their respective event at the World Bridge Teams Championships to be held August 12 – 26 in Lyon, France.

2017 Helen Shields Results

On April 17th we held the 2017 Helen Shields Rookie Master game. 21 clubs participate and we would like to thank John Rayner of Toronto. ON for preparing the analysis.

Congratulations to our winners — a tie at 68.25% for Tony Thickett/Annie McKenzie and Gail Fennell/Jeanette Zagwyn both from the Powell River Duplicate Bridge Club. You can see Canada wide and Zonal results here.
